WHICH were Jobs destroyed????
#11
I became stir crazy enough to drive to the office today. Our president has a seriously bad case of CV19 paranoia, so I was expecting to be sent home immediately. But I was alone for the first two hours which is normal for my early rising self. Later 5 more people showed up and we all worked in our offices with no issues the rest of the day.

Despite having the exact same tools and arrangements at home, and despite having to drive 45 minutes each way, I completed more work today than I would during any two telecommute days. I plan to drive in at least 4 days a week from now on both for practical reasons and to give our tyrant governor the finger. I also signed up for the email alert on when the president would be coming in, so I could avoid him.

When I left I noticed more than half the businesses in our office park had full parking lots. Doesn't seem to be anything keeping us from returning to full staff other than our paranoid president.

THIS Subject is much bigger than anyone appreciates.
(the chart at the bottom showing Private vs Public JOBS).

there is a factor that needs be added to the data in that chart to show a horrendous effect.

ie it's not just Private Jobs being destroyed EN MASSE while Govt jobs stay perfectly stable at their historically VERY HIGH RATE.

it is WHICH Private jobs were destroyed and which ones were not.

to illustrate, HERE is a CHART of USA Largest Private employers BEFORE COVID
ALL have employment Stable or dramatically INCREASING
because they are taking over the economy!
basically via the Government's response to COVID
Which has massively DESTROYED PRIVATE SMALL BUSINESS.
  • The Company: Walmart.
  • The Company: Amazon.
  • The Company: Kroger.
  • The Company: Yum! Brands.
  • The Company: The Home Depot.
  • The Company: IBM.
  • The Company: McDonald's.
  • The Company: Berkshire Hathaway.

NOW look at this chart with an eye that recognizes that ALL the destruction (NET of increases) was suffered by small business

I'd imagine Socialists have having orgasms as they see this data
(dictionary says Socialism means that the means of production are to be held by the public NOT PRIVATE. and for all intents and purposes, public corp or public govt are the same)

Same here. We have bureaucrats wagging fingers at small business because they're running out of cash because of the (absolute) lock down here. Apparently they were supposed to have planned for such an event.

I don't know how IBM makes the list. Their revenues have dropped off.

They make a lot from services now. Not so much from hardware.

1. Muddled short-term results
First-quarter revenue increased to $17.6 billion, up 0.1% year over year, adjusted for divestitures and at constant currency. IBM's flattish top line hides a contrasted situation impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Still a solid company but other than business as usual, they are not putting small guys out of business.

We are an IBM business Partner, times are tough. People are looking at re-platforming away from IBMs rent seeking product line.

AWS would be ahead in my list over IBM.

Government jobs being destroyed now.

The pandemic is a disaster all around.

"While Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is saying he'll block aid to states and cities unless he gets the gift of no liability for companies that endanger their workers and customers, cities and states are laying off workers, potentially by the hundreds of thousands—perhaps millions.

That means public safety and health, sanitation, utilities, transportation, libraries, and education are all in jeopardy, a review by The Washington Post has found. Police and firefighters are being furloughed and laid off. Revenue to localities and to states has cratered because of the crisis. "Some local governments have already started laying off or furloughing thousands of their workers, and the numbers are likely to grow markedly in the absence of federal aid," the Post's Tony Romm reports.

The National League of Cities estimates that between 300,000 and 1 million public sector workers are in immediate danger of losing their jobs or being furloughed without pay...."

.
 ah,  yea right aqua

300 thousand Public employees "MIGHT" lose their job soon

that REALLY compares to the 30 million PRIVATE job ALREADY lost - most all concentrated in SMALL independent businesses

sheesssshhh, I guess they could claim they're suffering the bulk of the damage, omg

Quote:https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/...-last-week
Millions more Americans filed for unemployment benefits last week, sending the six-week total above 30 million since the coronavirus pandemic began to shutter businesses across the country.

Gee Dave. The story said 300,000 to 1 million. I thought you of all people would be happy that government employees are losing their jobs.
