US Not Building enough housing

Angel  Sounds more and more like we are living thru a new version of the 1930's.

The U.S. isn’t building enough houses — and that’s not changing anytime soon, economists say

Published: Sept 11, 2019 11:01 a.m. ET

"Home buying is expected to ‘move further out of reach’ as new home construction still hasn’t returned to pre-recession levels

Home-building activity has never fully recovered from the last recession.

Real-estate website Zillow ZG, +0.98%  and research firm Pulsenomics conducted a survey of more than 100 economists, real-estate experts and investment strategists to gauge their expectations regarding the U.S. real-estate market. A 54% majority of those experts said they don’t expect new-home construction to reach an annual rate of 1 million units until 2022 or later.

And that has implications for buyers. “Without new homes to meet population growth and replace an aging housing stock, home buying is expected to move further out of reach,” Skylar Olsen, Zillow’s director of economic research, said in the report....."

Ryan Alswede had this interesting comment:

"Half of the owner-occupied homes were built before 1980, with around 38% built before 1970. I think the problem is even worse than people realize."

I did write here after the GFC, that the smart money would sweep up housing for cents in the dollar. I know a few who did - Canadians I was working with bought beachfront Miami for very little.

well, I'm a licensed builders, as was my Dad who built a lot of houses.

AND as I've said many times I can build VERY CHEAP SMALL houses people would LOVE
problem is, it's just plain become ILLEGAL.

SOME Governments, as below, have exempted themselves from their own law so THEY can do what they prohibit US from doing.

So.....how much building is your local government doing ? ?

Last time I looked, 95 million working age people in the USA were still out of the workforce (14.5 million were in school or job training).

More and more of the retailers (especially Mom & Pops) are shutting down.

Negative interest rates on Fedgov bonds may be in the future (it really is 1932 all over again).

It really does have the flavor of the 1930's.
